IR DualCam
Flir C2 Dual Digital Backend
Capture video with heat overlay side-by-side
When it comes to owning a Temperature-Camera there are several ways to find one that works best for you. Phone-Attachments for example are nice in theory, but they are pretty much obsolete as soon as you upgrade the hardware of your phone, change the OS or rely on an obscure App from someone, somewhere in an Appstore. I wanted a solution that is closed in itself, meaning it comes with its own display and is will only stop working, when one day the battery will die. And I hope I can fix that when it happens.
Luckily for me, Flir - naturally - had a product that fit my needs and was also somehow affordable for me (not so naturally). The Flir C2 comes with a entry-level IR resolution, a small Display and a battery making it an ideal candidate. My idea was to use this camera still as a stand alone temperature camera at times, but being able to hot-swap a digital backend onto it, to also be able to capture the live-video of the measurements while at the same time, also capturing the live-image of the area I am measuring at the same time. I found a Lens and Sensor that worked best with the display brightness, added a Filter to it (a real one, no software) and gave the contraption a small notebook web-cam to superimpose those two images or let them run side by side. I also build one version with a RPi Zero and Motion EyeOS, to capture Videostreams over Network. That was handy!
