First Response Fire Fighting

React fast, not furious

When it comes to a fire, you want it extinguished as fast as possible. Obviously. The problem is, that various type of fire need various solutions of fire extinguishing. In Germany we classify fire in fire protection classifications. Class A is fire that can be extinguished with water. It is the first class and in most cases the first solution. And here comes the biggest setback: There are materials that react violently when water is added. Burning Oils, Electronics and Batteries (LiPo, etc.) can react explosively when coming in contact with water. In these cases foam extinguisher are required. Or Sand. Because the drawback of foam is, that it messes everything up. Sometimes the foam is toxic the materials and the damage by extinguishing can be bigger than the successfully extinguished fire. What foam and sand makes a good extinguishing agent for these cases is the ability to cover the fire source and seclude it from further air. Foam because of the closed surface and sand because of the fine grain that closes gaps. If you have a small fire on your workbench or in your lab, sand can be good solution to keep additional damages to a minimum while still extinguishing the fire source in complicated situations.

This model needs some additional parts: A PVC Tube with 150mm inner diameter, M3 squarenuts and bolt, a handle and optionally a 120mm acrylic glas disc. More on this in a future workblog post.

I offer you this model free of charge and under your own consideration if you want to use it. Always have a normal fire extinguisher ready as well. Loesch does not replace a conventional fire extinguisher but can be used as additional line of defense. Fire extinguishing sand is defined by your countries Fire Protection Ordinance. Act accordingly. Teach a save workplace and home. I hope you will never need to use this model. Stay save.

Finished assembly

You can use a windowed version to make it obvious for others what the device is for. Else it is just a white Tube.

Unintrusive decor

Ready to never been used — Hopefully. Knock on wood.

In EU/DE you should use a grain size of 0.2-0.7 mm, aprox. 10Kg per tube

To keep the sand dry and pristine, you should keep the lid closed
