MicroFocus
Motor controlled fine stepped focus
Shake-free focusing
A Microscope can make a big difference when it comes to soldering, debugging or inspecting in general. Yet, it was always out of my price range. Over the years I gathered parts separately and build myself one that way. It had some drawbacks. One was the hand-controlled focus wheel. As soon as you touch your microscope, you are greeted with a shaking image. I wondered if I could just drive the focus-wheel by a motor in the slow stepped manner, without any shakes to the images. In this first prototype I came to a solution that I am still using. I designed it in a way, that I could easily switch between motor controlled focus and hand controlled by decoupling the gears on the fly. I went through several iterations until I found a motor and a reduction gear, that works for the microscope but found a solutions that worked for me.
If you have the same components and were also wondering if you could motorize it, you can follow me to get notified when I release the files or even write me, to publish the files sooner. Besides all this, you can also take these images as an inspiration for building your own motorized focus.
