WHY2025 Badge Housing

The Badge-Wizards from WHY2025 did their magic again. And while @Dynom already released a version for the WHY2025 Badge, I remixed the model and added some features to the housing.

Call me on the Camp on DECT XXXX    Camp is over! See ya 2027/29!

Some Updates

flummer

@flummer

Flummer released a very nice slick slim case with attention to details. It sits under the PCB embracing the colored spacer like the slim case but fully 18650 compatible check it out

As of now, the #BadgeVMS SDK has support for SDL2! If you were waiting on porting your favorite game to the #WHY2025 badge, now is your chance! Head over to gitlab and grab it while supplies last.

If you had problems with your #why2025 badge, I just released version 12 of #BadgeVMS it solves all known problems with SD cards, and lets you set up your own wifi settings etc. Check the OTA updater regularly! More fun stuff is coming!

Word of Warning

There is a discussion about the safety of the current Badge.
Please read this document & comments.
For now please do not use any 18650 cells (protected or unprotected) and revert to a powerbank via USB.
There were no major incidents and multiple devices I my area ran on the camp for days without issues.
Stay aware of the topic though.

Thanks everyone who donated his cells to Aid to Ukraine πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ β™₯️

SLIM

(After Camp)

Preview of STL file

WHY_CASE_SLIM_BODY.stl

SLIM BODY - Minimal Size. It sits directly on the PCB and exposes the 3-Layer Badge (Front+Spacer+PCB). Because of the super slim design, using the 18650 is not possible - so USB only or using a pouch battery. The breakouts are limited to just the bare minimum. The Antenna is still broken out to make it a LORA Home Repeater/Basestation and not collect dust in your badge bin.

WHY_CASE_SLIM_LATCH.stl

SLIM LATCH - The latch of the slim is not compatible to the HEAVY. This latch is build for material savings. Please use support material under the small overhanging lip at the end.

WHY_CASE_BOT.stl

BOTTOM - Handgrip Part. Easy to print upwards in any 3D Printer. This Version has holes on the handles to make the colorfull 18650 cells show through. Maybe not best to prevent objects or dirt getting into the Case. Therefore see the other version -->

WHY_CASE_BOT_CLOSED.stl

BOTTOM CLOSED - Handgrip Part. Without holes. Not as fun and colorful, but better for preventing shorts by objects getting into the case. Your Choice.

TOP - Glue or Screw the top part to the bottom. this version also has the grid plate mounting option. The updated version has the button not spared out anymore, but is an activly pressable button.

WHY_CASE_LATCH.stl

LATCH - Inserted at a slight angle into the bottom part and hold tight by a single golden M2 screw gives easy access to the PCB. You might need to add some support material under the smaller lip part on the bottom to avoid sagging lines while printing.

WHY_CASE_LATCH_ECO.stl

LATCH ECO - This small piece is fast to print. Just glue on a heavy weight 1mm cardboard 140x37mm to the part, chamfer the corners and design with colors and pens your eco friendly latch part.

WHY_CASE_INSERT_TOP.stl

INSERT TOP - This insert is a first approach before seen the PCB. The peripheral on the top and bottom are fully spared out and can be either fully closed or adapted by different plate insert.
EDIT: Now that the Badges were released, it seems like they generally fit by @Dynoms cutouts, but as the pinheader do not reach over the boards edge, I would recommend to leave out the inserts, as pinheader normaly only have 6mm of pin-travel when plugged in, so adding 3mm material on top would not give a tight fit when attaching additional extensions.

WHY_CASE_INSERT_BOT.stl

INSERT BOT - (first approach before PCB) These cutouts follow the positioning done by @Dynom. Print it out and glue the plate in if it fits. Or edit it to your desire until it fits.
EDIT: As the Case has its own lanyard holder, the two outer holes are not actually needed. The USB-C Port does not overhang the board though, because of that, any PLA Material here can only be minimal for the case. I gotta remake this part soon.
